A brief look back...

Here are some things that I've been doing the past couple of days, when I'm not working and researching for a paper which my professor was nice enough to give me an extension for ahaa~

Being home always makes me look back at my old interests...

Whoa look, my character from my secret LOZ: Ocarina of Time fan fiction (from... middle school.)
She never used to dress this... modestly.
And she looks kind of like a broken doll here, anyway.

Random, kind of (fail!)Egyptian lady~  Oooooh I spent way too long drawing this... and not enough time painting this - I wish her skin were a little darker..
But I was trying to work with lighting a little bit more.  hm~

Drawing anybody and anything from ancient Egypt proves to be a very difficult task - something I noticed many many years ago during my Mummy series and YuGiOh-induced obsession with Egypt, but seemed to have forgotten.  The drapery.  That's hardest.
I was up until 4 in the morning the day before yesterday drawing and painting this lady alone.  The first painting at the top I did a few days ago.
Needless to say I didn't stay up last night...

"..if strict monogamy is the height of all virtue, then the palm must go to the tapeworm, which has a complete set of male and female sexual organs in each of its 50 to 200 proglottides or sections, and spends its whole life copulating in all its sections with itself."

Frederick Engels, The Origin of the Family, Private Property and the State

After a whole day of reading, that made me laugh rather hard.
Go tapeworms.

I hope I can finish painting the doors for our computer room this afternoon, and then tonight maybe I can play Hotel Dusk...

...has anyone ever thought of what Spongebob Squarepants would look like if he weren't a 3 inch tall sponge, but a person?

Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds

I almost forgot about this~

Last week, I was informed on Deviant Art that this piece was featured on Gianmarco's blog (~cubbu on Deviant Art) :"D

I was super-excited for my piece to be featured with so many awesome poster designs, for although this was my first assignment of this past semester it is one of my favorites!  It is also extremely different from the way I usually work, so its success is even more exciting for me~

So I'd like to thank Gianmarco once again!

..and now I am seriously going to bed.. I can only watch one episode of Iron Chef America a couple of times before it gets really old.  Iron Chef Mario Batali is my culinary hero though (aside from my mom, who could outcook anyone).

Good night! (..good morning?)

Wow I fail hard~

(originally intended to be a character of my own but.. I don't know who he is now, haha~)
~~~
Ivan Braginsky, a character of Axis Powers: Hetalia, a webcomic by Himaruya Hidekazu (Kitayume, his website)
~~~

Feliks Ćukasiewicz, another character of Axis Powers: Hetalia...
~~~
Young Herakles Karpusi and his mother, both are characters from Axis Powers: Hetalia~
~~~

I have totally been painting for the past week, and have some nice little watercolors to show for it - I've just been hesitant about putting it all up here 'cause, well.. it's (almost) all fanart.  Whooooaaaaaaa.
..but I've thought about it a little more and think, "Yeah, so freaking what?"  So hopefully I'm not alone on thinking this, haha~

So here I am once again (finally..), and have something to show for myself this time. (If you know who any of these characters are, good on ya, but I don't feel like I should blather too much about them.)

The first painting was me just fooling around with gum arabic, which I had recently bought during finals week, but hadn't yet had time to try out.
The three pieces of fanart were born from my desire to draw clothes from different times and places, specifically Russia , at first.. then followed by Poland.  The next day I wanted to try working with darker skin tones, and so I went for the Mediterranean :)
All this is because I bought this amaaaaazing book last month:

It's really bangin' and although it isn't ridiculously in-depth, it's full of full-color illustrations and brief but informative descriptions~

Well, as it's now two in the morning I'm going to leave this here..  once again, everything I do can also be viewed (somewhat larger) at my Deviant Art account, it anyone's interested.

Thank you very much~

This is the beginning of something...

..I'm just not quite sure what~

My name is Erin Rae and this is my first step into the blogging world.  I have previously showcased my work only on my Deviant Art page, but now being halfway through my college career (I am an Illustration major) I feel as though I should begin to extend further out into cyberspace~  I look forward to my future here and appreciate any kind of constructive input, be it on my etiquette or formatting, or on the work that I will eventually share.

Over the course of this summer I will attempt to put something up at least once a day!  This might be laughably optimistic, especially with my one month trip to Italy in July, but I'm willing to give it a shot, haha~

I will you to expect a variety of results -- a few ten minutes sketches or the considerably rarer fully-finished piece..

I look forward to this summer, beginning tomorrow!
